The first TopMath Talk of the summer semester is just around the corner! On Thursday, 15 May 2025, 4:30 p.m., Helge Frerichs from the Differential Geometry Research Group of the University of Augsburg will give a talk ‘Scalar curvature deformations with non-compact boundaries’, which will take place in room 02.06.011.
“We develop a general deformation principle for families of Riemannian metrics on smooth manifolds with possibly non-compact boundary, preserving lower scalar curvature bounds. The principle is used to strengthen boundary conditions from mean convex to totally geodesic or doubling.
As an application, we prove non-existence results for Riemannian metrics with (uniformly) positive scalar curvature and mean convex boundary.”
TopMath Talks
As part of the TopMath talks, TopMath students and doctoral students present parts of their research. They provide an understandable insight into their current area of interest, enabling students and staff from different research fields to broaden their mathematical background knowledge. The talks are open to the public and last about an hour, followed by discussion. You are cordially invited!
