Meeting and working with people from different cultural backgrounds is an important part of our everyday lives (university, workplace, leisure time). These encounters can be very interesting and enriching. Sometimes, however, they are difficult, because depending on our cultural background, we perceive our fellow human beings and our environment differently and have different expectations of them.
Practical exercises and role plays are an important part of the workshop. In this way, you can learn how your own cultural background shapes your perception and behavior and why other people (fellow students, professors, etc.) react differently than you might have expected.
The workshop is aimed at international and German students in Bachelor's and Master's degree programs at TUM CIT Informatics who are planning a longer stay abroad during their studies or are interested in the topic.
Topics include: What is culture shock and how do I deal with it? Different learning and teaching styles, What are stereotypes? How do I make friends in another country? What does a professor expect from me?
