ATHENS Programme
Since 2005, the Technical University of Munich is the only German member institution of the Advanced Technology Higher Education Network Socrates, ATHENS.
The network consists of 24 European univeristies. The ATHENS group is an association of qualified European universities that have set themselves the goal of offering their students demanding one-week intensive courses twice a year (in March and November) on a wide range of topics in engineering, natural sciences and mathematics. Some courses are of a general educational nature.
The program aims at enableing students to spend an uncomplicated stay abroad in an international atmosphere in order to get to know the country, the people, the mentality and life at the university. The courses take place at the same time at all schools. The target group is students at least in their 3rd year of study and doctoral students.
Participation is free of charge, travel and accommodation costs are largely covered by the students themselves. The 30-hour courses are completed with an examination, evaluated and credited with 2 ECTS. The stay is accompanied by programme of approximately 10 to 15 hours organized by the host university.
For the recognition of the ECTS, please contact (preferably in advance) the coordinator of your degree program or the contact person of the department for support electives (see also our website on Recognition of Credits Earned Abroad). Recognition is only possible for Athens courses that were not completed at TUM.
Further information on the application deadlines (approx. 2 months before your stay) and the application procedure can be found on the Athens website of the TUM Global & Alumni Office.
