Important Deadlines For a Stay at a University Abroad
Here, you can find an overview on the deadlines of the most important exchange programd and scholarships. Please check the exact deadlines on the websites of the respective organizations. Sometimes, deadlines are shifted to public holidays or weekends, so it is possible that the exact deadline date may vary by a few days from year to year!
This overview is supposed to serve you as an orientation for when to start your applications for the respective programs. Please keep in mind that you need at least 2 months for a proper application! The more time you take for your application, the more your chances of success increase as often you have to ask for a letter of recommendation or take a language test beforehand.
There are the following particularities for applications for North America: The application deadlines for the most important scholarships for the USA and North America are 14 months before the start of your studies abroad (mostly June). Considering the 2 months for preparing your application, we recommend you to come to consultation and start organizing your application at the beginning of the summer semester.
When preparing an application for Australia or New Zealand, you have to take into account that there the academic year is usually divided into February-June (first semester) and July/August-December (second semester) as Australia and New Zealand are located in the southern hemisphere. Additionaly, variations of the semester times within Australia are possible. Please read the websites of the respective universities carefully.
The deadlines for the one-year DAAD scholarships are usually 1 year before the start of the studies abroad, except for Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, see table. Please refer to the DAAD website for more information on the DAAD deadline for the respective region. These scholarships can be combined very well with a place in the TUMexchange program!
At the time of application, you do not have to enclose a letter of acceptance from the university abroad with your documents. An intention or plan is the most important thing.
